Terms & Conditions
Last Updated: 12 May 2025
1. Introduction
These Terms and Conditions govern the relationship between Thong Atelier ("we", "our", "the Atelier") and any person ("you", "the client") who submits a watch or timepiece for service, assessment, or repair, or who uses this website at thongates.biz.
By leaving a watch with us, requesting a quotation, or proceeding with any service, you confirm that you have read and understood these terms. If anything is unclear, please contact us before work begins — we are happy to explain.
2. Service Acceptance
Acceptance of a watch for service does not constitute an obligation to complete repair. Before any substantive work is undertaken, we will provide a written assessment and, where possible, an estimate of the cost involved. Work will only proceed once you have given written or verbal confirmation of your agreement to that estimate.
In cases where a watch is opened and further complexity is identified beyond the initial scope, we will inform you promptly and seek fresh approval before continuing.
3. Estimates and Pricing
Estimates provided during assessment are given in good faith based on visual and initial technical inspection. They are not fixed quotations. Final costs may vary if the extent of work required changes once the movement is fully examined or disassembled.
- All prices are quoted in Thai Baht (฿) and are inclusive of labour unless otherwise stated
- Parts sourced from external suppliers may be subject to availability and import costs
- Where costs are expected to rise beyond the initial estimate, we will notify you before proceeding
- Assessment fees apply whether or not further service is agreed
4. Turnaround and Collection
Indicative turnaround times are given as guidance and may vary depending on parts availability, the complexity of the work, and the volume of work in progress at the Atelier. We will keep you informed of progress and advise of any material changes to the expected completion date.
Once work is complete and you have been notified, we ask that watches are collected within 60 days. After this period, we may charge a storage fee. Watches left uncollected for 180 days or more without contact from the owner may, after formal notice, be treated as abandoned in accordance with applicable Thai law.
5. Your Responsibilities
- You confirm that you are the rightful owner of any watch submitted, or are authorised by the owner to approve service on their behalf
- You are responsible for providing accurate contact details so that we may reach you with updates and for collection
- You accept that certain older or heavily worn watches may present inherent risks during service that are beyond our control
- You understand that original parts, once removed and replaced, may not be returned unless specifically requested and agreed in advance
6. Care and Liability
We handle every watch submitted to us with the same care and attention we would wish for our own. While we take all reasonable precautions to protect watches in our custody, our liability is limited to the repair or replacement of any damage directly attributable to our own negligence, up to the agreed service value.
We are not liable for:
- Pre-existing faults or latent defects not apparent at the time of acceptance
- Losses arising from delays in turnaround beyond circumstances within our control
- Consequential loss, emotional distress, or commercial loss of any kind
- Damage arising from the owner's failure to disclose known faults or prior repair history
We recommend that clients maintain appropriate personal insurance for high-value timepieces while in transit to and from the Atelier.
7. Authenticity and Originality
Where a watch is represented by the client as a particular brand, model, or period piece, we rely on that representation in good faith. We are not responsible for changes in value arising from any subsequent determination regarding authenticity or provenance. We will, however, bring to your attention any observations that give us concern during service.
8. Payment
Payment in full is required upon collection of the finished watch. We accept cash in Thai Baht and bank transfers. We do not release watches until payment has cleared. Where work is declined or the watch is collected following assessment only, the assessment fee remains payable before collection.
9. Complaints and Disputes
If you are unhappy with any aspect of the service received, we ask that you raise your concern with us directly, in writing or in person, within 14 days of collection. We will make every effort to reach a fair and considered resolution. Where a dispute cannot be resolved directly, it will be subject to the jurisdiction of the Thai courts in accordance with Thai law.
10. Amendments to These Terms
We may update these Terms and Conditions from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. The version in effect at the time you submit a watch for service will govern that transaction. The current version is always available on this page.
